Danel
Chief of tens1 Enoch 6
Chief of illicit judgment and oracles
Seventh chief of tens. The name is the same as the righteous Danel of Ezekiel 14 and the Ugaritic sage Danel — a collision the Enochic writers likely intend. This Watcher is the stolen office of judgment: he taught kings to play at being the Ancient of Days.
Also named Daniel the Watcher, Dani’el of the tens.
- Etymology
- “God judges” (dan + ʾel) — not the exilic prophet.

What was taught
