Teachings/1 Enoch 8:3; 18; 21
The constellations
The sky as a script of beasts and names
Kokabiel teaches the named stations of the sky. Zaqiel adds the burning exceptions: meteors, comets, the prison of wandering stars. Together they make the night a readable — and misusable — text.
What was given away
- Names and houses of the Mazzaroth
- Orion, the Pleiades, the Bear as templates
- Wandering lights as tools rather than prisoners
- Shooting stars as sentences and as missiles
Why the book calls it forbidden
1 Enoch treats stars that leave their stations as sinners in the sky. To teach them as colleagues is to recruit the prison into the faculty.
What became of it
Job 38’s questions about binding the Pleiades read, after Enoch, like a cross-examination of Kokabiel.
