Teachings/1 Enoch 8:3; 41; 60; 76
Clouds, thunder, and rain
The storehouses, leaked
Three chiefs split the weather: Chazaqiel the clouds, Ramiel the thunder, Ananiel the rains. Enoch is later shown the lawful storehouses. The Watchers sold the keys.
What was given away
- Kinds of cloud, including a counterfeit Sinai-darkness
- Thunder as a voice, a code, and a lure
- Early rain and latter rain as levers over bread
- Blessing reduced to precipitation
Why the book calls it forbidden
Weather, in Israel’s later covenant, is a barometer of fidelity. The Watchers taught it as a technique, a racket, and a theophany that could be staged.
What became of it
Baal’s storms, rain-rites, and every later claim to ‘own’ a harvest sit in this faculty. Deuteronomy has to take the weather back.
